Camp reachAbility 2014

2013

We are well into 2014, and Camp reachAbility is gearing up for the season! There are many exciting things happening around the office.

First of all, we’re excited to announce our re-vamped Leaders in Training (LIT) program. The staff at Camp reachAbility are what make our program so successful, and LIT is designed to help participants develop the skills and confidence needed to build relationships and increase the effectiveness of initiatives used to work with people with disabilities.

LIT is about making a difference:

  • in our workplaces by developing leadership through participating in workshops that enhance our skills
  • in our communities by enhancing capacity to effectively interact with clients and agencies
  • in our personal lives by finding significance in working with people, building relationships and connecting with meaningful local supports

Our first session is coming up!

Play for Purpose – Why play is an important learning tool and for developing skills, self-awareness and community

Thursday, February 13th, 2014 from 4-6 p.m.

3845 Joseph Howe Road, Suite 201

Join Tova Sherman and Melissa McNeil at reachAbility Association for a chance to learn about (and play around with!) the importance of recreation. This is the first in a series of six workshops for Leaders in Training (LIT), getting you excited about and prepared for work with people of all abilities.

We will also be providing more information about how you can work with Camp reachAbility this summer, so bring a friend!

Speaking of staff, we’re now hiring for the 2014 camping season! We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about engaging with people with disabilities to fill the roles of lifeguards, camp counsellors, and more. We’ve been attending summer job fairs and talking to folks all over Atlantic Canada and Ontario about the exciting opportunities this summer! Check out the job descriptions page.

Finally, for those of you already packing your bags getting ready to come to camp, watch for the 2014 Camper Registration Form in March. We’re looking forward to finding out who’s going to be sitting around the campfire this year!

If you have questions about LIT, job opportunities or camper registration, contact Manda at manda@reachability.org.

Have fun out there!
