Camp Counselor

As a Camp Counsellor you will be working directly with adolescents and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. There will be up to 24 campers per five-day-session served by a team of 10 front line staff to allow for a high staff: camper ratio.
Position: Full time; Day, Evening, Weekend. Eleven weeks of employment. Live on site. Room and board provided. Two weeks of staff training followed by eight week-long camper sessions with 2 days off per week. Finishing with one week of camp clean-up and debriefing at the end of the season.

End Date: August 31st, 2012
Job Description:
Work collaboratively with Camp Director and staff to:
- Deliver recreational programming to Individuals with disabilities in a fun, engaging manner; lead specific activities for large and small groups
- Sleep in Camper Cabin on a rotational basis, assist campers during the night
- Provide camper support and supervision: alleviate fears, concerns, worries; offer encouragement, motivation, positive attitude and energy
- Responsible for up to 4 ‘Key Campers’, assisting them with intake/evaluation forms
- Assist with personal care (i.e. morning and bedtime hygiene, showering, toileting, etc)
- Maintain a safe environment
- Assist with waterfront duties i.e. swimming, canoeing, lifeguarding
- Perform camp set up and clean up
Qualifications:
- Experience/passion working with individuals with cognitive and/or physical disabilities
- Swimming certifications (Bronze Medallion/Cross, NLS) are preferred; willing to obtain
- Outdoor recreation experience I.e. canoeing, hiking, etc., leadership skills
- Previous camp experience, love of the outdoors
- First Aid, CPR
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
Skills:
- Effective communication (verbal & non-verbal) skills
- Demonstrated initiative; able to think and respond appropriately in the moment
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team required
- Excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills required
- Knowledge of various disabilities and their impact on health, well-being, and quality of life
- Able to accept supervision, receive feedback and incorporate appropriately
Rate of Pay: Training $300/week, Camper Sessions $400/week (Includes all meals and lodging)

As a Camp Prep Cook/Dishwasher, you will be working directly with adolescents and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of all meals for up to 40 staff and campers.
Position: Full time; Day, Evening, Weekend. Eleven weeks of employment. Live on site. Room and board provided. two week of staff training followed by eight week-long camper sessions with 2 days off per week. Finishing with one week of camp clean-up and debriefing at the end of the season.

Job Description:
Work collaboratively with the Camp Cook to:
- Ensure quality of food and determine size of food proportions
- Prepare dishes for campers with food allergies or intolerances
- Inspect kitchens and food service areas
- Assist in maintaining inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
- Help cook clean and maintain kitchen environment to meet accepted standards for food and safety inspections
- Wash all dishes after meal and snack times
Qualifications:
- Food Safe Certificate
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
- Cook Trade Certification is an asset
- Experience working in a camp environment is an asset
Skills:
- Effective communication (verbal & non-verbal) skills
- Work with minimal supervision
